Surya turning his Ratha drawn by seven horses (representing seven colours) towards the northern hemisphere, in a north-easterly direction. It also marks the birth of Surya and hence celebrated as Surya Jayanti (the Sun-god’s birthday).

ABOUT RANGOLI

Rangoli is also known as MUGGU or KOLAM, It is a traditional art from India.

The patterns are typically created with materials like colored rice, dry flour, (colored)

 sand or even flower petals.

Rangoli is a decorative design usually made during Indian festivals. This Rangoli designs are especially made by South Indians for famous festival Pongal (Sankranti) with different colours which are also decorated with various flowers in front of their houses.

The purpose of rangoli is decoration, and it is thought to bring good luck and also 

they are the symbol for welcoming the guests to our houses.
